Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage!

"Children are born ready, able and eager to learn. They actively reach out to interact with other people, and in the world around them.

Development is not an automatic process, however. It depends on each unique child having opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments." Development Matters

At Stoke Minster we greatly value the importance that the EYFS plays in laying the secure foundations for future learning and development. However, we also believe that early childhood is valid in itself as a part of life. It is important to view the EYFS as preparation for life and not simply preparation for the next stage of education.

To read more about the structure of our Foundation Stage Curriculum and our philosophy on Early Years Education, please read the 'Early Years Foundation Stage Policy', which can be found in the Policies section of this website under Important Information.

We Love To Learn Through Play!

Dough Disco!

In the EYFS we love getting down and groovy at the Dough Disco! This is a really fun way to help children to develop the fine motor skills needed for writing.

The videos below give you a little taster of Dough Disco and the fun that we have with this at school. Why not have your own Dough Disco at home?!

Digit Dance!

In Nursery and Reception we learn our numeral formation through dance too! Digit Dance is a really fun and exciting way to develop this important skill. The video below show you the moves that we use when teaching each set of numerals. Turn up the volume and give it a try!

Phonics (Letters and Sounds)

Duing the EYFS Mr Thorne and Geraldine the Giraffe help us with our phonics learning. The 'Mr Thorne Network' on YouTube has some brilliant videos that can help support your child in learning to link written letters (graphemes) to spoken sounds (phonemes). If you would like to enjoy these with your child at home please follow the link below.
