Every child in Year 1 will be taking the phonics screening check in early June. It is not a formal test, but a way for teachers to ensure that children are making sufficient progress with their phonics skills to read words and that they are on track to become fluent readers who can enjoy reading for pleasure and for learning.

Our main focus in Year 1 is Phase 5 however this year we spent Autumn 1 revisiting Phase 2, Phase 3 and Phase 4 due to Lockdown.

The Jolly Phonics songs and actions that we use for Phase 2 can be found on the link below:

We follow the White Rose Scheme of learning for Maths which follows the 'Maths Mastery' approach. The whole class moves through topics at broadly the same pace and each unit is studied in depth. Children have the opportutnity to use a range of maniplatives to practise with and they reason and problem solve to master the maths! Please see the Autumn and Spring schemes of learning in the documents below.

White Rose have produced videos for each lesson to support families with home learning. These are ideal for children to watch at home if one of our year group bubbles needs to close.

There are some more free resources available on the website such as workbooks. The workbooks for units we have taught so far are in the documents below.

Class Dojo

We appreciate all parents that have signed up to Class Dojo for doing so. This will now be the primary form of communication between school and home. Teachers can communicate directly with parents and vice versa.

All your child's homework will be set through Class Dojo so we can avoid cross-contamination of things going home and back to school again. If you need the login details re-sending home please can your child ask their class teacher for a login.

Your child will receive weekly spellings, weekly homework and a half termly homework menu. Please upload photographs of your child's work to their class dojo portfolio.
