September 2018

Hello and welcome to Year 5. The children have already settled into life in Upper Key Stage 2 and we have already been very impressed!

This term we will be investigating the wonderful world of chocolate and we will very soon be travelling to Birmingham for a tour of Cadbury's World! Aligned with our topic, we will be reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and we will be using this book to help inspire some marvellous writing. In maths we are already beginning to delve into the world of numbers to 1,000,000 and the children have already shown us they are up for the challenges ahead!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come and speak to a member of staff and we will be happy to answer them. In the meantime, keep visiting this page to see what we have been up to and to join in your child's learning adventure!

In our literacy work this half term we are studying the story ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl. This text links perfectly to our Mayan civilization topic work where we are studying the history of chocolate.

Also, to bring the chocolate factory to life, we will be visiting Cadbury’s World in Birmingham in mid October. We are sure the children wont let you forget this trip will be coming soon!

  • What day is PE?

PE will be taking place on Monday and Friday so please ensure children have their kits n school on these days and any earrings are removed. If they cannot be removed by the child they will not be permitted to take part.

  • What day is homework due?

Homework is sent home on Fridays and is expected back in school on the following Wednesday. Please ensure your child is reading at least five times a week and practicing their spellings. All homework is given to help children develop their skills at home and your help with this is invaluable.
